So do your adoring worshippers wear matching robes/jump suites or is the dress code pretty loose? Personally I had to let alot of my minions go due to the economy.

Think more along "loincloths, togas and fanning me with palm fronds". A nice white sheet is acceptable.

  • Dec. 4, 2010 – 4:14pm
That doesn't sound very good for all seasons. I like to have something that they could wear all year long. As for the white sheet are your followers ghosts?
  • Dec. 5, 2010 – 8:22pm
No, the white sheet is for the ones who can't spring for a real toga.

  • Dec. 6, 2010 – 9:37am
Maybe you should rethink your dress code, togas are so B.C. We live in Ohio not a tropical island vaolcanoe lair. I am sure they complain.

    adoring worshippers do not complain

Someday I will be wanted. Not only conveniently, secondly or eventually. I will be passionately, primarily, WANTED.

I can wait.

I'm worth it.

The songbirds beyond my window
Have all gone for the winter
But I woke to singing regardless
It was your voice, it was our song, it was in my head

silly introverts

"If you don't know what an Introvert is thinking or feeling, "It's because you haven't asked...checked in." And when Introverts say something, listen closely. They may look "quiet," but they're communicating-processing inside constantly. So they say what they mean...because they've given it a lot of thought. "

"I am an introvert who has learned that to be successful, I must master the social skills."

I hate the phone because I am an introvert.
"I’m an introvert. Go ahead. Debate me on it. Most don’t believe me. But it’s true. When I was a kid, my mom used to make me call to order pizza because I was so terrified of the phone (for those of you who call me, you’ll understand I’m still terrified)."

"Yes, I’m an introvert with super high social skills, but an introvert, none-the-less.
So what does that mean? It means that I can go and go and go, but when I’ve run out of adrenaline, I’ve run out and I have to go into my cave."

I never have visitors because I am an introvert.

"I literally tell my friends (and family) to NEVER show up on my doorstep without calling me first. My home is my safe place.... I don't get all buddy buddy with my neighbors anyway. If I get all buddy buddy, I'll lose my safe place."

Juggle these thoughts, the every day life

Living in joy, or the struggle and strife

Consider the options, make your choice
Decide to be silent or raise your voice
Bouncing in rhythms we move through the yard
Ready to fight, or to let down your guard

Alone in the world
A world without sound
Determine your fate
By standing your ground
Having a vision, setting your goals
Speaking in volumes of truths to be told
Freeing your passion, freeing your soul
Of what kept you captive, made you lose control

I know a place
Where we can go
Your porcelain face
And this heart of stone

Fear

Essay 4: Fear

Take a deep breath, I think to myself, with my pulse racing and my heart beating so hard I can feel it in my temples. Sounds from the hallway filter through the closed door, and I know I shouldn't be here in this side room; if I am found, they will assume I was sleeping on the job. A panic attack will sound like an excuse to them, and a poor one at best. But I have to get control. My presentation starts in less than an hour, and my hands are shaking.

I take a few deep breaths, and I can feel the air shuddering in and out as my shakes and racing heart threaten to overwhelm me. I feel cold all over, almost numb but am aware that I am also sweating. I shut my eyes, lean my head back, and recall the things I have read and learned about controlling anxiety attacks. I get a firmer mental grip and force myself to clear my head. I picture my head as a place filled with nothing, only blackness, and focus on that image until my breathing slows.

Then I begin my deep breathing, inhaling in for two counts, out for two counts. I breathe in and out. I narrow my focus only to the darkness I imagine behind my eyes and the sound of my breathing. Some of these techniques I learned from researching sleep disorders, since my rampant insomnia has thrown me. Some I learned back in college during a class on Buddhism where we were taught meditation techniques. A few I have picked up purely from experience. I use every method now, one after the other, to calm the clamoring in my mind.

In a while, I will face an auditorium of my peers and superiors. I will give an admittedly short presentation on new changes regarding the handling of infectious waste materials. My voice will quiver, I will speak too quickly, and I will end on the verge of nervous tears. But these exercises right now will at least get me there and get me through. I won't back out, or whisper through my slides, or choke up and get only part of the information out there. My fear used to control me entirely, but I am learning to control my fear.

The Sirens

An essay I wrote for Creative Writing this quarter.

The Sirens

Tigerlilly usually hears the sirens before I do, her long Spaniel ears perking up, her head swinging towards the front of the house and then the back, trying to determine which door to protect. Her tail swings in wide arcs, waving her black fur like a flag. Her behavior is what alerts me to the sound; I see her head cocking side to side and then my own ears begin to tune in. I probably wouldn't even notice the noon siren if she didn't hear it first, my human brain quickly and subconsciously deciding for me which sounds to filter out and which will get attention. Lilly's animal instincts still treat each new sound as an alarm, and her short memory can't retain the information that once a week, every Wednesday at noon, she hears this noise but that no danger follows.

As the sirens rise in volume, reassuring all of Columbus that they would warn us if a tornado ever threatened our homes, Lilly's high female howl raises with it. Having realized she can't find the source of the noise, Lilly simply drops her butt where she is and lifts her nose to the ceiling, commiserating with the mournful cry of the siren. I imagine Lilly using her voice to tell the other, mysterious canine that she does hear his story and joins him in his telling of it.

Briefly, Lilly glances over the room to Rosemary, lying on their pillow under the desk, to see if Rose also hears this sound and will howl with her, but the older dog has no interest. Her Cocker ears only perk now at the sound of food, although her black nub of a tail wiggles whenever I look at her. As the sirens rise again, sounding simultaneously across the city, Lilly howls along. Her cry is loud, and long, and sad. The sirens don't make me feel that way, but her howl does, reaching something inside me that perhaps is still in touch with my animal instincts after all. I go to sit next to her and comfort her, putting my arms around this puppy who somehow manages to match the volume of the city sirens from her little body.

Then Rose does rise, and comes to sit on the other side of me. Even though these sirens pose no threat, she still fills her duty as my companion. So we sit, the three of us girls living on our own in the city, on the floor of my dining room, and listen to the sound of the sirens.

Divorcette Playlist

This is just a collection of stuff I have listened to for the past months, some for the words, some because it made me dance, some for personal reasons. Starts out all breaky-uppy, then starts having fun. Rock.

Seether - Careless Whisper
We could've been so good together
We could've lived this dance forever
Now who's gonna dance with me?

Blue October - Should be Loved
Stop staring, you’re the reason I feel so unhappy all the time.
Look, I’ve given you everything I know how.
You're standing on the top of my shoe,
You're keeping me from gaining ground, yeah.
Look, I’m sorry if you feel like I let you down.

I should be held at night,
That I know is right.
I can't breathe when you’re around.

Sanctus Real - Change Me
Did I break your heart, by straying so far
From what you had planned for my life?

Blaqk Audio - The Fear of Being Found
I feel see through
Can you see through me?

I can't change a thing, can't explain why I
Never felt it, not even the first time

Tegan and Sara - Nineteen
I told you
I feel you in my heart,
And I don't even know you
Now we're saying
Bye, bye, bye
Now we're saying Bye, bye, bye
I was nineteen

State of Shock - Money Honey
If I had more money honey
Would you love me, love me, love me
If I wasn’t just somebody like me

Anberlin - PaperThin Hymn
I thought you said forever
Over and over
A sleepless night becomes bitter oblivion

Pop Evil - Hero
I won't be, I won't be your hero

Hinder - Without You
Without you, I live it up a little more every day
Without you, I'm seeing myself so differently
I didn't wanna believe it then but it all worked out in the end
When I watched you walk away, well, I never thought I'd say
I'm fine without you

Blue October - X Amount of Words
Your solar bipolar panic disorder
Seems harder and harder and harder still
You try to control it

Now deleted and defeated I will stand on my own

Audioslave - Be Yourself
Someone gets excited in a chapel yard, catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen white roses on grave
To be yourself is all that you can do

Oleander - Why I'm Here
And I cant love you anymore
I'm scared of the sound, of it

Hinder - Up All Night
Now she's all in, the room is spinnin
Probly shouldn't have shot that Jamison

We're gonna be up all night
Gonna take you for a ride
We're gonna be up all night
Get it on til the mornin light

All American Rejects - Gives You Hell
Now where's your picket fence love?
And where's that shiny car?
And did it ever get you far?

Kid Cudi f. MGMT and Ratatat- Pursuit of Happiness
People tol' me slow my roll, I'm screamin out fuck.that.
